Klopp Sees Red Over Liverpool-Tottenham Referee Decisions
Liverpool played to a thrilling 2-2 draw against Tottenham Hotspur on Sunday, 19 December, but the afternoon wasn’t without its fair share of drama.
The crowd at Tottenham Hotspur Stadium in northern London, UK were treated to two riveting goals from both the home and visiting teams, but what made the night memorable were the decisions that referee Paul Tierney took.
Tierney handed out a total of eight cards throughout the English Premier League (EPL) match: each side earning four yellows apiece, with the sole red card going to the Meyerside team’s Andrew Robertson for a dangerous tackle in the 77th minute.
However, the spectacle of the evening went to Reds’ boss Jurgen Klopp for sarcastically displaying his sentiments at Tierney, which earned him a yellow-card as frustrations were flying high after a rather rough shove on Diogo Jota which did not equate to a penalty.
Klopp wasn’t the only one annoyed with the refereeing decisions made as Lilywhite’s coach, Antonio Conte, called into question several video-assisted referrals, such as the one that gave Liverpool their second goal.
Liverpool are sitting in second place with 41 points on the EPL table, three points behind Manchester City in the top spot.
